These regulations expressly permit law enforcement to continue voluntarily holding take-back events, running mail-back programs and maintaining collection receptacles. Also, these regulations will allow manufacturers, distributors, reverse distributors, narcotic treatment programs (NTPs), hospitals/clinics with an on-site pharmacy, and retail pharmacies to run mail-back programs and keep collection receptacles voluntarily.
Moreover, this rule also expands the authority of authorized hospitals/clinics and retail pharmacies to maintain collection receptacles voluntarily in long-term care facilities. This rule also reorganizes previously existing regulations on disposal including those concerning reverse distributors.
